Mutinonhondo Wilderness

Mutinhondo Wilderness is a botanical reserve located in the mountainous western part of Zambia. Spanning over 10,000 hectares, it's hills and valleys create delightful micro-climates where a range of plants grow, and among them a diversity of insects and animals live.


Founded and managed by the owners Lari and Mike Merrett, Mutinhondo is a haven for plant enthusiasts, and their story is definately worth a read. Lari, a self taught botanist has over decades cataloged the extensive range of flora on the reserve and into a full colour, two volume book which is now available for sale.


Mutinhondo has a several rustic and spacious chalets, as camping options. Activites including birding and canoeing which make it an ideal location for a family holiday. The region is also popular with cycling and hiking enthusiasts with several events taking place through out the year.


If you are going to see the plants the best time of the year is February into March. Towards the end of the rainy season a majority of flowers will still be in bloom.
