Mutinondo Wilderness is a botanical reserve located in the mountainous western part of Zambia. Spanning over 10,000 hectares, it's hills and valleys create delightful micro-climates where a range of plants grow, and among them a diversity of insects and animals live.
The reserve is known for its stunning natural beauty, with rolling hills, ancient rock formations, crystal-clear rivers, and waterfalls. Visitors can explore the reserve on foot or on horseback, with guided tours available to help them discover the area's many hidden treasures.
In addition to its natural attractions, Mutinondo Wilderness Reserve is also committed to sustainable tourism and community development. The reserve works closely with local communities to provide employment opportunities and support conservation efforts in the surrounding area.
Originally established by Lari and Mike Merrett, Mutinondo is a haven for plant enthusiasts, and their story is definitely worth a read. Lari, a botanist has over decades cataloged the extensive range of flora on the reserve and into a full colour, two volume book which is now available for sale.

Mutinondo has a several rustic and spacious chalets, as camping options. Activities including birding and canoeing which make it an ideal location for a family holiday. The region is also popular with cycling and hiking enthusiasts with several events taking place through out the year.
The ideal time to observe the plants is during the months of February to March, though there are captivating flowering plants to discover all year round. As the rainy season comes to a close, a significant portion of the flowers will still be in full bloom. Nicko showcases some of these gems on the Zambeziflora channel.
Overall, Mutinondo Wilderness Reserve is a unique and special place that offers visitors a chance to experience the beauty and wonder of Africa's natural world while supporting important conservation and community development efforts.
